Creative Ways to Light Up Your Bedroom

Understanding Basic Bedroom Lighting Concepts.

A well-lit room speaks a lot about the people residing in it. Apart from that, it is always more pleasant to stay in a room that is not dark or dimly lit. There are a host of scientifically proven benefits of keeping your room well lit. When it comes to the bedroom, it is all the more important to have good lighting. Even if you want your bedroom to be pitch dark while you sleep, there shouldn’t be any lack of light at other times. Let’s explore a few creative ways of lighting up your bedroom.

A fundamental mistake in lighting is assuming that one primary light source is enough. Sure, a powerful light source is often enough for keeping a bedroom well-lit, but it doesn’t allow creativity. If you do not choose to switch between different light modes, your bedroom will be bright but not well-lit. By a ‘well-lit bedroom, we mean a space that has suitable lighting for different moods.

The most basic way to layer your lights is through accent, task, and ambient lights.

  • Ambient lights set up the mood of your bedroom. They are especially helpful in the night time when you are relaxing or preparing for bed. Ambient lights should not be overpowering. They are best in soothing hues and cool colors.
  • Task lights help you focus and work. A classic example is a table lamp. For a task light, choose something bright and powerful in plain hues. The goal of the task light is to help you get work done and should not be experimented with further.
  • Accent light is a special light to showcase the impressive features of your bedroom. Be it a portrait, wall art, or some other decor piece, an accent light will bring it to life.

You must also have a primary light source apart from these three. It will act as a multipurpose light for the various miscellaneous day-to-day activities.

Some Tips to Lighten Up Your Bedroom

  • The use of mirrors near light sources is a classic way of brightening up a room. It is especially helpful if the space is not of huge size. Mirrors beautify a room while adding depth, character, and brightness to it.
  • Using a smart bulb can give you the option of choosing warmth and color. It is a great addition to any bedroom and can be operated seamlessly with a smartphone.
  • Do not overlook natural light sources. Sunlight is more beneficial than any artificial source of light. While the sun’s out, make sure you open your windows and let the sunlight come in. Nothing is more charming than the warmth of pure, unadulterated sunshine.
