The Secret to a Happy, Healthy & Productive Home Office.
Regardless of how enjoyable it is to work from home, we will still be less productive if not create an appropriate work atmosphere. So, to have a happy, healthy, and productive work environment, you must invest in a few fundamental necessities.
Ergonomic Chair and Desk
- You feel comfortable working from home. However, sitting in your bed or on your sofa for extended periods of time can easily degrade your posture and cause back, shoulder, or neck pain.
- It is wise to invest in an ergonomic chair and table. It will support your back and correct your posture. This will allow you to work for longer periods of time while avoiding pain. Your desk should have the correct dimensions and height. The tables and chairs that come with adjustable heights are excellent.
Lighting
- Natural sunlight is always best to work in. Exposure to artificial light for long hours hinders the circadian rhythm and induces negative thoughts. It is advisable to set up your workstation in a room that receives ample sunlight. You can set up your workstation in front of the window too.
- If you work at night, ensure sure you have adequate lighting in your workspace. You can use a desk lamp. But, make sure to step out for a few minutes to greet the sun.
Plants and Purifiers
- If you spend a lot of time at home, an air purifier is a good investment. Indoor pollution levels are substantially higher than outdoor pollution levels due to rising particulate levels and inadequate indoor air circulation.
- You’ll also need something to calm your eyes. Arrange some plants around your house. Seeing green can help you relax. Why not make your own miniature garden? If you are into aesthetics, there are plenty of options out there to help you to decorate your home with plants. Indoor plants require less maintenance and purify the air.
Computer Accessories
- If your work requires using a computer, you do need blue light filter glasses.
- If you use a laptop, consider purchasing a laptop riser to relieve your neck from the strain of staring down.
- Invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse.
- If your surrounding is noisy, you’ll need a noise-canceling microphone and headphones.
- To stay hydrated, have a water tumbler near you.
Time Management
- Do not combine your work and home hours.
- Take a small break every hour and stretch yourself.
- Exercise on a daily basis. You can even start meditation.
- Manage your sleeping schedule.
- Don’t skip your meals and maintain a healthy diet.
Have this enthusiasm daily that you feel more like you are at work than at home when you enter your workspace.
